Filipino artist Oscar Villamiel is known for collecting found objects and assembling them to create installation art. In his most recent works culminating in an exhibit entitled Unchanging Ever Changing at Mind Set Art Center, Taipei, Villamiel presents us with a series of birds made from feathers and fishing nets encased inside wood boxes. The birds look like they are enclosed inside coffins and their bodies, constricted.
Villamiel’s works are often tied to Social Realism in the Philippines. It is an art movement that focuses on the hardship of everyday life. For more information about Villamiel’s past exhibits Payatas, Feast and Famine, and Stories of Our Time, you can go here, here and here.
