Iida Kiriko’s works delve into the realm of the fantastic and the magical. Her subjects are animals and children in playful interaction. In some cases, her subjects are people who seem stripped of age. At times, her works reveal something like a portent or a playful musings at the same time. A sort of mixed bag. Her paintings seem to be composed from the perspective of a child as he or she views the outside world for the first time, although not realistically depicted. The cold winter in her works appear to be endless, yet something to look forward to.
