Taiwanese artist Lee Jiun-Shyan’s 888 series 台灣藝術家李俊賢的888系列

In Chinese numerology, number 8 is a lucky number because it sounds similar to another Chinese word which means “prosper”. Add to this the fact that 8 matches the mathematical symbol of infinity. Lee Jiun-Shyan’s mixed media on canvas contain the vitality present in murals and the intensity of expressionist paintings. Because of the shape of number 8, I can’t stop myself from looking at these paintings and tracing the vibrant brushstrokes. It’s as if the brushstrokes don’t end, too!

The pieces below are part of an ongoing group exhibition titled The Terrain of Taiwan Contemporary Art at Double Square Gallery, Taipei.

在中國習俗裡面,由於在粵語裡「八」跟「發財」的「發」諧音,因此不少華人認為「八」是一個吉祥的數字,再加上在數學裡面「八」看起來很像無限大「∞」。李俊賢的作品具有壁畫的精神,以及表現主義繪畫的力度。因為數字八的形狀,我無法阻止自己看這些畫,以及追踪充滿活力的筆觸,筆觸好像永無止盡!

這些作品是正在台北的雙方藝廊展出中的部分作品,展題叫「台灣當代藝術的季風、黑潮」。
